Akima Facilities Operations (AFO) is looking for a Transportation Outbound Counselor to work in Fort Stewart, GA.
Responsibilities
- This position plans itinerary and schedules travel accommodations for military and civilian personnel with dependents according to travel orders using knowledge of routes, types of carriers, and travel regulations.
- This counselor verifies travel orders to insure costs, availability, and convenience of different types of carriers to select most advantageous route and carrier; notifies personnel of travel dates, baggage, limits and medical and visa requirements, and determines that all clearances have been obtained.
- The transportation counselor assists personnel in completing travel forms and other business transactions pertaining to travel, may deliver personnel files and travel orders to persons prior to departure, meet and inform arriving personnel of available facilities and housing and furnish other information, and may arrange for motor transportation for arriving or departing personnel.
- Transportation Counselors will provide technical expertise in transportation entitlements, counseling under various types of orders for military and civilian employees. The transportation counselor will advise on varied procedures for the movement/storage of household goods, unaccompanied baggage, mobile homes, and POVs and/or receipt thereof.
- Transportation counselors will schedule shipments with commercial contractors and process shipping and storage documents; conducts group briefing sessions to advise military, civilian members as well as family members, on their responsibilities and movers responsibilities during pack and pickup of their personal property.
- Transportation counselors brief members on liability, claims, and protection relative to Do-It-Yourself (DITY) moves.
- Identifies and selects the appropriate mode for applicant such as servicing, packing, crating, etc. Establishes pickup and delivery dates from applicable guides considering each members needs and requirements and each carriers’ ability to meet pickup and delivery dates.
- Uses an automated transportation system (DPS) to create, acquire and process information and documents in support of transportation personal property shipment and storage operations.
- Considers and resolves a wide range of interrelated or non-standard problems dealing with such matters as owner’s desires, quantity and types of property involved, extent of entitlements available and what is to ship or store. Guidelines consist of official agency shipment regulations and JFTR for various services: ARMY, NAVY, AIR FORCE, MARINES and COAST GUARD.
Qualifications
- Must have excellent communication and computer skills; knowledge of Defense Personal Property System (DPS) and very knowledgeable in Microsoft Office programs including Word, Excel and Power Point.
- Knowledge of the Joint Federal Travel Regulations (JFTR), DA and DOD regulations and publications, carriers tariffs, Tenders of Service and Letters of Intent, related regulations, Standard Operating Procedures, in order to advise and assist customers on complex shipment/storage of personal property.
- Ensure that all tasks are performed safely and meet Government/Army standards when applicable.
- Wearing safety items of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) e.g. gloves, safety shoes, protective eyewear, hearing protection, and other items such as aprons or outerwear as appropriate.
- Employee is required to maintain a valid state-issued Driver’s license and applicable Government/Army license.
- Perform other duties as required to support the mission and contractual requirements. This is a Union position and Union requirements will apply.
- Must have completed prerequisite training for this position or have 3-5 years of experience with Department Travel System (DTS) and Defense Personal Property System (DPS).
- High School Diploma or GED certificate.
- US nationality/citizenship.
