Weather and Navigation Systems, within NAV CANADA, provide information to the aviation community. We are seeking a highly analytical and detail-oriented System Test Specialist to join a growing team of skilled and motivated people helping to provide the aviation community with the information they need to get people and things moving across the country.
You’ll be accountable for applying and developing specialized knowledge in the design, development, and integration of weather observation systems that help the aviation community in Canada from coast to coast to coast.
As a System Test Specialist you will play a key role in validation, verification and quality assurance of weather observation systems software.Job Description

Key Accountabilities:
- Design, execute and document comprehensive test plans and procedures
- Simulate a variety of environmental and operational scenarios to validate system performance and stability
- Collaborate with system engineers, developers, and operational users to identify issues, replicate bugs and track resolutions
- Validate the capability of systems to meet functional, performance requirements of air traffic operations
- Ensure the integrity of the System Certification Test process for ATM products
Job Requirements
Education:
Graduation from a recognized university or community college with a degree/certification in Computer Sciences/Information Technology, Engineering OR an acceptable combination of education, related experience and training.
Experience:
- Minimum 5 years of hand-on experience with system/software testing, test engineering principles and validation of complex real-time systems for both software and hardware.
- Extensive experience preparing and executing both manual and automated requirements-based procedures – ability to derive test scenarios and test cases from functional requirements, ensuring traceability and coverage.
- Demonstrated success in identifying, reproducing and documenting defects.
- Experience with Agile methodologies, and experience working within Agile/Scrum development teams.
Knowledge:
- Understanding of software testing methodologies (sanity, regression, black-box, white-box).
- Knowledge of defect lifecycle management and root cause analysis.
- Familiarity with test automation tools.
- Proficiency in at least one programming or scription language: Java, Python, JavaScript or C.
- Familiarity with version control systems like Git.
- Knowledge of Agile tools.
Abilities:
- Strong verbal and written communication skills, able to convey technical concepts to diverse audiences.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities, working under pressure, and meeting tight or conflicting deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
- Ability to satisfy operational requirements by analyzing requirements and prepare appropriate System Test Plans, Test Cases and Test Scripts.
- Ability to provide accurate effort estimates, track schedule, and provide timely reports
- Ability to quickly understand customers’ needs and knowledgeably discuss test/requirements issues
- Ability to troubleshoot, solve complex problems and to define & implement practical solutions

Working conditions:
- This role is based at Ottawa TSC and is classified as hybrid, with three days a week onsite.
- Occasional Travel required.
