Designated Employer-DOT Compliance Representative
Job Description:

This aviation company is looking for a Designated Employer-DOT Compliance Representative. The position will manage and oversee all drug and alcohol testing programs in compliance with DOT regulations (49 CFR Part 40). The DER will act as the employer’s liaison with drug and alcohol testing service agents and will play a key role in ensuring the safety and compliance of our transportation operations.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Serve as the primary point of contact for all DOT drug and alcohol testing matters.
  • Receive and act on all drug and alcohol test results, including positives, refusals, and other violations.
  • Coordinate and schedule random, pre-employment, post-accident, reasonable suspicion, return-to-duty, and follow-up testing.
  • Maintain accurate and confidential drug and alcohol testing files for all DOT-regulated employees.
  • Complete and document all required DOT background checks, including prior employer drug and alcohol testing history (49 CFR Part 40.25).
  • Liaise with MROs (Medical Review Officers), SAPs (Substance Abuse Professionals), collection sites, and testing vendors.
  • Ensure required training is completed and employees are informed of DOT policies and procedures.
  • Monitor regulatory updates and implement compliance changes as needed.
  • Support audits and inspections by internal departments and regulatory agencies.
  • Investigate compliance issues and coordinate corrective actions as necessary.
Job Requirements:
  • 2+ years of experience in DOT compliance, required
  • Strong understanding of DOT regulations (49 CFR Part 40 and FMCSA rules).
  • Excellent organizational, communication, and decision-making skills.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and file management systems.
  • DER Certification preferred or willingness to obtain upon hire.

Working Conditions:

  • Hybrid work environment – primarily remote with on-site presence required for testing coordination, audits, and compliance needs.
  • Must be available after hours or on short notice to respond to incidents requiring immediate testing coordination.
