Job Summary

Are you looking for an entry-level position in aviation and data analytics? Do you want to help NAV CANADA measure the performance of Canada’s air traffic system? By joining NAV CANADA’s Corporate Performance and Sustainability team you can help drive transformation and sustainability in the aviation industry.

As an Air Traffic Management Performance Analyst, you will work within a diverse team to provide analytical support and insights that drive strategic initiatives. You will be responsible for the collection and analysis of aviation performance data to model potential impacts on airspace and airport capacity across Canada’s Air Navigation System. Through close collaboration with NAV CANADA’s Service Delivery team and external industry partners, you will have the opportunity to contribute to various projects that aim to enhance the delivery of key analytics and current reporting processes to provide actionable insights based on the latest industry events.

This is an entry-level position. Candidates are expected to be able to leverage work, volunteer, education or internship experience to continue their learning journey in the aviation industry.

Key Accountabilities:

  • Contribute towards NAV CANADA’s operational performance initiatives and help tackle key aviation challenges such as delay, traffic recovery and system performance in Canadian airspace.
  • Work with internal business units to collect and analyze data from various sources that enable timely dissemination of routine and ad-hoc reports.
  • Support enhancement of analytical processes to enhance operational data availability and quality assurance.
  • Leverage existing report automation, data preparation and processing methodologies to enhance the efficiency of current best practices used for analyzing operational data.
  • Conduct in-depth analysis and develop processes to create various reports.
  • Collaborate with team members on current industry research questions.
  • Develop and maintain the production of monthly routine and ad-hoc reports, as well as identify areas to improve accuracy and efficiency.
  • Package analytical results into presentations and effectively communicate findings to a non-technical audience.
  • Enhance the documentation of existing processes and identify potential new data sources to further research future objectives.
  • Create interactive data visualizations and analytics reports that enable relevant stakeholders to easily retrieve data and grasp key findings.

Job Requirements

Education:

  • University Bachelor’s Degree or diploma in a field such as Aviation, Computer Science, Data & Analytics, Data Science, Mathematics and Statistics or an acceptable combination of other relevant education, experience, and training.

Experience:

  • Production and maintenance of statistical data supporting business decisions.
  • 0-2 years of relevant work experience.

Knowledge:

  • Knowledge of mathematical and/or statistical concepts related to data collection, manipulation and validation.
  • Knowledge of programming languages and concepts (e.g. SQL, Python, R).
  • Knowledge of or willingness to learn data analytics or statistical analysis software or platforms (e.g. Pandas, Databricks).
  • Knowledge of or willingness to learn data visualization tools and techniques (e.g. Power BI, matplotlib, ggplot).
  • Knowledge of MS Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.

Abilities:

  • Ability to organize, analyze and synthesize data.
  • Ability to work independently to plan and prioritize in a fast-paced environment.
  • Analytical skills that can find meaning and patterns in data, as well as the ability to stay focused during repetitive analysis.
  • Communication and data journalism skills that help communicate results of analysis via effective storytelling and interactive visualizations.

Working conditions:

  • This position is hybrid with a minimum 3 days per week on side.
  • Required work on site at the Ottawa Combined ANS based on business need.

** Due to the sensitivity of this position, you will be required to obtain a Government of Canada Secret (Level 2) Clearance following commencement of employment.
